Charles Debrille Poston is referred to as the 'Father of Arizona' due to his efforts lobbying for the creation of the Arizona Territory after the Gadsden Purchase. He was also the territory's first delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives. Poston was the managing supervisor of the Sonora Exploring and Mining Company, and later, after travelling the world and taking a keen interest in Zoroastrianism, he attemped to establish a sun cult, complete with temple, near Florence, AZ. He remains one of Arizona's most fascinating historical personalities.
