A Russian soldier protests as two Japanese soldiers interrupt his dinner preparations
Satires (Visual works),Japanese,1900-1910. ; Woodcuts,Japanese,Colour,1900-1910. Kiyochika was born into a family of lower military rank serving the ruling Shogunate of the Tokugawa family. Later from about 1875 on, he tried his luck as a self-taught painter.After 1880 Kiyochika's style became more traditional. He also turned to satirical cartoons and illustrations for newspapers and magazines. During the Sino-Japanese war the artist made about 80 war prints.
