"Alice and the Bosch Birds" is the title - one of my favourite Alice in Wonderland paintings I've done yet! This is the fourth in my sub-series called "Alice in Other Lands" which are paintings featuring Alice in a variety of unusual circumstances inspired by old Masters and Art History movements in general. This is a take on "Alice and the Birds" - here we have my Alice in a surreal landscape featuring numerous Hieronymus Bosch references. Bosch always painted lovely birds, and of course Alice encounters some rather unusal birds in her travels, so I decided to combine the two. The fish monster steed and flying fish are Bosch references as well. I've always thought that Alice's adventures should continue into many other bizarre tales, and you can expect to see more from me in the future. Hieronymus Bosch is a huge influence on my work - a big part of the reason I became interested in gothic and fantasy art. My own lowbrow big eyed take Bosch's work - a celebration of my love for Art History in general as well. This is my own original acrylic painting.
