Amtrak's demonstration version of the ICE was equipped with two power units totalling 13,000 hp, a Restaurant Car, an "ICE Deluxe" car (European first-class, with two-and-one seating), and four "ICE Coaches" (European second-class with two-two seating). The Restaurant Car seats 24; it also includes a Bistro section that accommodates 26. The Deluxe car and one of the coaches are equipped with reservable conference rooms. The German trainset is 655 feet long and weighs 562 tons. Technical features include regenerative braking that returns about 8% of power consumption to the catenary grid, three-phase a.c. .
