Epomophorus crypturus The Fruit Bat Reproduced from a hand coloured lithograph by J.D. L. Franz Wagner from the 19th Century book "Dr. Wilhelm Peters' Natural History Trip to Mozambique." Dr. Wilhelm Peters (1815-1883) was a well known German naturalist who became the director of the Berlin Zoological Museum. In September 1842 Dr. Peters set off aboard a Portuguese convict ship first to Angola and eventually to Mozambique where he arrived in June 1843. He was the first scientist to document many species in the region.
