His was the Presidency in which the ground work was laid for Civil Rights. His was the voice which resounded and has been echoed for over a century in every presidential debate, every presidential speech and every call for equality. This year celebrates his 200th Birthday. The son of two uneducated farmers, with only 18 months of formal training, Abraham Lincoln, self-taught and an avid reader, rose to become one of the most beloved and revered Presidents. This is one of my favourite Abraham Lincoln quotes. It was taken froma speech he made before the Wisconsin State Agricultural Society in September of 1859.
