Three little orangutan orphans cling to each other at the Orangutan Foundation International Care Centre on the island of Borneo. Dr. Birute Mary Galdikas, the founder of OFI, began her ground breaking study of orangutans in the 1970's as part of Dr. Louise Leakey's program which included Jane Goodall (with chimps) and the late Dian Fossey (with mountain gorillas.) Orangutans are a great ape, and sadly, they are an endangered species. Orangutan Foundation International is a 501(c) (3) public-benefit corporation. You can also contribute directly and foster orphaned orangutans at www.orangutan.org
