because they can be. 2000 years ago you think there were peaceful atheists living in a utopian green flower world with no heaven & no hell? and then jews & christians came along and wiped you out? no, the world was brutal, dark and vicious. slaves were kitchen appliances. sex was used as punishment & exploitation. whole towns were massacred, 1st borns were sacrificed. the writing of the good book came up through this darkness. and started the path to humanity. i respect atheists (thanks for grammar fix) that respect where humanity comes from. but most are contentious self grandizers. NO OTHER BOOK brought forth the ideals of compassion, not 2000 or 3000 years ago. many have copied the Bible today. but disregard or see the Bible as not the influence on Wester Civilization as we know it. Your name calling is typical of atheists. Of misinformation. Stuff I grew up with as a former liberal communist Bible hating fine art grad. And its hating as long as its America, white Christians, & Israel... isn't it? you see the biggest difference is that I believe judeo-christianity brought forth charity, humanity, and the golden rule, do unto others as you would have them do unto you. that concept exists no where in other belief systems, ESPECIALLY ATHEISM. atheism is chaos, i mean really. there's nothing out there? nothing at all? stars are just random balls of fire... you'll never know the truth, neither will I... but my faith isn't about heaven or hell... its about the world today... and of all the nations (belief systems) i see... judeo-christian philosophy is the most free, tolerant, loving, & successful. A fact is something that is true, and proven. Your japan stat is wrong. Buddhism is the dominant religion. But remember, just 60 years ago, they believed a man was a god. And they were the superior race on Earth. Actually, Hitler was an atheist. He was not a Christian. His personal letters revealed his intent to dismantle the church. Stalin was an atheist, China is atheist, they're genocide is in the 100 million. And please, look at the history of the Crusades. Islam came after Christians & Jews, taking over the Middle East with violence. Islam means 'submit'. They came up through Spain nearly wiping out all of Christian Europe. So Christians knew that the long tenuous coexistence wasn't working. Islam wants all others to submit, just like the 57 Islamic States today. Communist nations are atheist. They persecute any belief but the states. Atheists want to regulate & rule all others through courts & govt. China, Soviet Union, Vietnam. And back to Japan, they were conquered & still occupied today by Christians. But hmm, they have their own govt, life, successess. Whaddyaknow?
