Balinese Offering Baskets Print by MarkoMarko
Balinese life is full of routine rituals. One is the making of these offering baskets. The Balinese place them everywhere and they always contain the same items: the basket made of tropical tree leaves, bits of flowers that seem the same in each basket, a clump of white rice, two slices of a long thin leaf, and often an incense stick. You can find these little baskets on sidewalks outside of stores, on small shrines, on the dashboards of cars, on low walls, beside large trees and statues of deities, near doors -- and the list goes on. Usually the ones from the day before are not removed. The new ones are placed on top. These offerings are made at least twice a day -- morning and evening. Throughout the day you can see people preparing these little baskets and in the markets you an find the raw materials for them offered for sale. There is a lot more where this came from. Take a look at my gallery.
