Orangutans are the "red ape," so called because of their beautiful long red hair. Their hair colour can vary a lot from flaming orange to deep auburn, and their hair (or lack of it) can be an indication of their health. In the wild, they smell like fresh cedar chips. they are definitely not the stereotypical "stinky monkey." In fact, great apes (chimps, gorillas, bonobos, and orangutans) are not monkeys at all. One of the easiest distinctions is that monkeys have tails, while the apes do not.
