Berlin is a city that has seen more than its fair share of violent episodes since the, in itself hardly peaceful, industrial revolution caused the urban fabric to explode outwards, spawning a vast built monument to the power of capital and industrial production. During WW I, 763,000 people died of hunger as the result of the British naval blockade. After WW I the city witnessed anarchy and near, civil war with rival left and right wing groupings fighting for the upper hand until Hitler took power with all the gruesome results that his reign of terror produced. As if at the end of WWII Berlin hadn’t had enough after being nearly bombed off the face of the earth; the post-war turned into the “cold war” and the city was divided by a brutal wall guarded by radicalised soldiers with a secret shoot to kill agenda. Nobody knows how many people the border guards, the automatic machine guns, and the mines killed but estimates for the entire East West border range between 400 and 1000. The city still shows plenty of the scars of war and violence and this design cross breeds the traditional tourist T-Shirt idea with the dark imprint of the cities past.
