As huge fans of Orwell's novel 1984, we've attempted to create a host of INGSOC Party memorabilia with an air of authenticity and creativity. We often fuse modern elements with vintage styles in a way that we think Winston Smith might have seen in the dystopian world of Airstrip One.

However, for this poster, the most important of the 1984 propaganda memorabilia, we wanted to keep things very vintage and true to the story as much as possible.

We decided to paint a new image of Big Brother in menacing fashion. We took artistic license in making the Big Brother head without the characteristic moustache that Orwell describes in the book, but tried create instead an almost godlike, omniscient face floating through the dark.

In the novel, it isn't exactly clear if Big Brother is an actual person, or a sort of made up authority figurehead used to personify the INGSOC party. Because of this we attempted to give the face a surreal quality. As if the image was almost a composite of physical features the inner party tested and placed together for maximum paranoia.
