This curious necktie presents, in a colourful visual form as a word cloud, the keywords that summarise the issues surrounding the threat to our health from the avian influenza virus, an infection in birds that is commonly referred to as Bird Flu. The virus in infected birds, both domestic poultry and wild birds, can mutate to infect humans and this has led to epidemics in humans, primarily in Asia, with often fatal results (60% of those infected by the Avian Influenza A strain H5N1 have died).
