This watercolor was a study in glazing layers of colours one atop another to create a luminous brilliance. It was an imaginative romp while excitedly anticipating a long upcoming trip to Europe. The blue poppies (meconopsis beticonfolia) are from Butchard Gardens in Canada. They are mixed with yellow buttercups in a Coca Cola glass. (I wanted this trip to become the 'real thing') It did. Big Bird came with us to Europe for 3 years and sat in many windowsills overlooking beautiful rolling fields of sunflowers, lavendar, and grapes. I guess dreams come true with blue fairies and blue poppies...and... Blue Hawaii?!

In this floral and still life artwork, a tiny artist (Big Bird) is standing on the window sill with his painter's pallette looking for inspiration out upon the beautiful sunflower and lavendar fields of the south of France. He is hungry and wants a baguette.
