Boombox Nation 83 Neck Tie by tshirtypoo
The boombox, or ghetto blaster, was and is a portable stereo system. Unlike the iPod, or even the 80s very own Walkman, the idea with the boom box was not to listen to your music in private, but to pump it out as loudly as possible. Advertising for boomboxes all but encouraged 1980s kids to annoy the neighbours. One such ad showed two blasters of differing power and price. The smaller one was labelled 'Power you can hear on the other side of the street', and the larger model was tagged with 'Power you can hear at the other end of the street'. Boomboxes were great for impromptu parties, and because they could be powered by batteries as well as from the mains, they were great for break dancers, beach parties, or frightening away the wildlife on camping trips!
