Thanks for your message.
The US Democratic National Committee introduced the term "differently abled" to shine a positive light on disabled persons. After all, everyone is differently abled and in communities, people complement each other: Everyone has their abilities and limitations, physical, mental, psychological or other. We should SEE, RECOGNIZE AND ACCEPT THE WEAKNESSES of each person. Nevertheless, each person should rather be DEFINED BY THEIR TALENTS, SKILLS AND POSSIBILITIES, not by their limitations.
When you send your C.V. to a company to apply for a job, do you make a list of your weaknesses? "I can't use Adobe Illustrator, I don't have a driver's licence, I don't speak Chinese, I have difficulties to concentrate". No! Emphasis is on the abilities of each person, so they can be integrated into a company, into a community, or a social group and be useful to this group. That's the point of this slogan.
