About the Design

El Greco's Saint Martin and the Beggar, circa 1600
St. Martin and the Beggar - A classic Renaissance Painting, artwork that has passed into the public domain and makes wonderful gifts and other products.

All of the Fine Art, Vintage Art, Classic Masterpieces, and other Antique Masterworks here at Masterpiece Gallery have been carefully edited and placed on products to provide the best possible results. We may not have as many items for sale as some of the bulk stores, but please be assured that we pay attention to the details and design each product for maximum positive effect.

Saint Martin, Martin of Tours, the beloved Saint splits his cloak with the beggar as related of his early time in in Amiens in Gaul while a Roman soldier.

El Greco, or "The Greek," was a master of the Spanish Renaissance. While he produced his most famous works while in Spain, and indeed lived most of his later life there until his death, he was Cretan, or Cretian, by birth and studied in Italy prior to moving to Spain. Many see a heavy Byzantine influence on his work. Much of his painting is portraits and religiously themed work, as befits the time and place he worked.

All of our products are made with large scale images that have been carefully edited to provide the best resolution, colour and detail possible. We have tried to make products available in many popular formats, but please contact us via the sidebar link on the MAIN PAGE if you need help customising anything.
