The Snow Queen is considered to be Andersen's best writing. It is a story of the struggle between good and evil played out with two children, Kai and Gerda, and the evil Snow Queen.
Many scholars and critics agree it is his best writing. This story has been retold through the years as seven different fairy tale stories. It has also been rewritten for theatre, ballet, and movies throughout many years.
The Snow Queen lives in the land of permafrost at her palace and gardens, but travels around the world within the snow. Kai's grandmother is an important part of this story as she tells Kai and Gerda the legend of The Snow Queen.
