Famous Animal Mother and Baby Mousepad by Rebecca_Reeder
Watch for this blue door and this wonderful orangutan in the new IMAX movie "Born To Be Wild", and you will be seeing Akmad , a former orangutan orphan who in October 1975 was on the cover of National Geographic Magazine with Dr. Birute Galdikas, the founder of Orangutan Foundation International
Here's a preview of the movie:

IMAX movie preview

As an adult living in the rain forest, she has raised numerous offspring in the wild. This confident son enjoys the protection and comfort of his big, strong mummy. In my photo here, they had just left the rain forest canopy to join us on the porch at Camp Leakey (Indonesia.) Akmad had no qualms about reaching over and grabbing some of our rice. Who was going to say no to an animal diva of her status?

Rebecca_Reeder
She is very self confident and definitely one of the alpha moms around Camp Leakey.
plumeriaflowers
Wow, she sure is a large mom all right!
I will look for the blue door in the movie!
Rebecca_Reeder
Thanks, Olympia.
It was a magical moment. Akmad's little son felt so protected with his big mom, and Akmad seems to be taken late-in-life motherhood calmly :-)

Lorrie-- to answer your question...
She found a pot of rice for the camp workers, and she helped herself. :-) (The she shared some with her son who is feeling very confident and relaxed because he has a BIG mom!)
