The poster was created by Swiss artist Theophile Alexandre Steinlen in 1898, high time for beautiful Art Nouveau posters in Paris. Steinlen's trademark was cats, but he was also known for his wonderful images of cabarets performers and hundreds of magazine illustrations depicting everyday Parisian life. He lived in the avant-garde Montmartre section of Paris, and he and other artists including Toulouse Lautrec developed the Art Nouveau style.
