God's Drawbridge Cards by Rebecca_Reeder
Nature's architecture.

*** UPDATE: This location is very close to where the illegal miners burned down the guard post in November 2009. They were mining within a national park which is home to many orangutans. When the guards tried to stop them, the guards were threatened with machetes.

The sky was overcast this afternoon, and a few drops of rain were starting to fall when I took the picture. Thus, I was not able to capture the brilliant blue sky of the Indonesian rain forest, two degrees south of the equator. What is clearly visible is the merging of different rivers where the Sek onyer River (brown water) angles off to the left.

The two tree trunks angling in towards the middle of the black water river are the drawbridge, an excellent route for Proboscis monkeys or young orangutans trying to avoid the crocodiles in the river below. Something about this picture makes me think of Robert Frost's poem: "Two roads diverged in a wood and I, I took the one less travelled by. And that has made all the difference." If you access this location with the Google Earth information (provided on the back of this card) you will be able to see some of the rain forest destruction, the large brown patches along both sides of the river.

Lovely image and very interesting write-up!
The words from Robert Frost add a delightful and thoughtful touch. Many thanks, Rebecca, for calling in again. Most of Christine's dog paintings were commissions.
