Often when the term "vegan" pops up a negative stereotype follows of a skinny pale "hippy" who puts animals before his fellow man, however when comparing the rights of animals to humans, it is often the case that both parties, human and non-human, are connected. Though my own personal reason for a vegan lifestyle may not pair with others, it is a decision I live by. It is estimated that around 40,000 people die every day due to starvation through out the world, yet it takes about 6 grams of plant food to produce just 1 gram of meat. If we all lived off an omnivore diet, we could feed 2 out of 7 billion people due to a lack of land to grow enough grain and other plant food. However if by miracle everyone took up a vegan diet, world hunger would potentially end. Not only does live stock require such huge amounts of resources but the whole process of meat and dairy causes a huge amount of environmental damage, in fact a U.N study showed that the production of meat/dairy causes more greenhouse gases than all the worlds' vehicles combined. It is in the interest of all that a new view on life, regardless of species, should be adopted if a future is to ever be seen at all.
