To Re-define Commerce. Powered by the World's Imagination
Yes, it's a big vision. No, we haven't lost our marbles (at least not all). Here's the deal: eBay was the start, but it's a limiting model as it requires an already existing supply of goods. The next generation of commerce will utilize on demand, made-to-order technologies to completely eliminate the economics of scarcity and empower a truly democratic marketplace where anyone can create and/or sell products with no upfront cost.
(a) User-generated content, (b) community, (c) the long-tail – these web2.0 concepts are not limited to bits – and we believe the most revolutionary applications have yet to arrive. Zazzle is building the technologies to bridge web2.0 into atoms by enabling user-generated products. Just as web2.0 has disrupted the world of digital content, advertising, and entertainment… we believe it will have the same effect on commerce.
Zazzle is pioneering the technology platform for this future of commerce – micro-retailing – a new form of monetization for content owners, big and small, who wouldn't otherwise be able to set up a retail operation due to costly setup fees and inventory risk.
Normally, we don't talk about the special sauce behind our products… i.e. how everything works. We just let the end product speak for itself. However, we're so excited about our new Dark Apparel 2.0, that we've taken the time to give you a sneak peek behind the scenes.
Unlike most web companies, we deal with real physical products. That doubles the challenge and, hence, the fun. We develop technology solutions for bits and atoms. The best part is that we get to tackle hard problems that nobody has encountered before. Unfortunately, we can't really share many details, because most of what we're working on is for the future and, as such, is confidential. But stay tuned.
