The name of this endangered species is actually two words from the Indonesian language (orang + hutan), meaning "People" + "[of the] forest." Hutan is the Indonesian word for forest. These are all my personal photographs from the Indonesian rainforest.

Orangutans are extremely gentle and intelligent vegetarians, showing emotions with their facial expressions, as evidenced on this poster where a beautiful toddler pouts, contemplates, smiles, and laughs. She is considered quite a beauty with her thick, long auburn hair!

One hundred percent of the artist's profits from the sale of this poster and all wildlife products in this gallery are used to support OFI's orangutan rescue, rehabilitation, and release back into protected areas of the rain forest. OFI was founded and is still run today by Dr. Birute Mary Galdikas, one of the three "Leakey's Angels" who studied primates; the other two women are Jane Goodall and the late Dian Fossey. You can foster one of the orphans under OFI's care and/or buy trees for the replanting of deforested areas: Go to www.orangutan.org

Each gentle face teaches us about the kindness and sweet disposition of these characters we know as Orangutans. Your photos are so thrilling and educational. Schools & Colleges conducting environmental and wildlife study courses should snap up these products of yours, to reinforce the learning experience for their students. Another fave! Skye ;o-)

and everyone who has left these wonderful, encouraging comments since I last looked beneath this poster. I can assure you that these babies are even more heartwarming in person. Stay tuned for a spring 2011 IMAX movie about orphaned wildlife. It was filmed at the same location as where I took these photos!
