Hi Rebecca, Historically J Pod shows up for the season in late April or early May and K and L pods not until late May or into June. So we won't know for a while yet. The Center for Whale Research that logs and keeps the official records, lists a whale as missing for one year from the last sighting before listing it a 'presumed dead.' These whales never leave their families their entire lives, so when one goes missing ... however there have been two different times when a young whale had been located...so keep the 'Faith' and we'll keep hoping.
Hi Rebecca, yes Faith L-57 is gone. He was last seen in November 2008 and did not return in 2009. His memory will live on in the images people have taken of this most majestic whale.
I really love the additional information you supply with your awesome photography. Thanks so much for educating us all :o-) Skye
P.S. Yes, I am totally enjoying wonderful Prince Rupert in BC. The wildlife here is awesome!
