Public Library of Science
About
About PLoS The Public Library of Science (PLoS) (PLoS.org ) is a mission-driven non-profit and a publisher of seven open access , online journals. PLoS is committed to making scientific and medical research literature a freely accessible public resource. Read our Progress Report (PDF) to find out more about PLoS’s mission, achievements and hopes for the future. About the PLoS Store The Public Library of Science is pleased to offer a range of official merchandise (t-shirts, children’s clothing, hoodies, mugs, and much more) for those who want to spread the word and support PLoS. The PLoS Store is proudly powered by Zazzle, a supplier of high-quality branded merchandise to some of the world’s leading companies. Zazzle offers a 100% customer satisfaction guarantee and prints every t-shirt digitally and “on demand,” just for you. They also offer local delivery at competitive rates in the US, UK, Australia and Canada and a fair price on delivery in the rest of the world. We’ve got a few things planned for the PLoS Store in the upcoming months, including new designs and products and a revival of “vintage” PLoS t-shirts.Please visit often in order to see these developments unfold. We would appreciate your feedback on our store (store@plos.org ), which we will continue to refine and expand in response to user demand. Frequently Asked Questions Why is PLoS opening a store? Our existing merchandise operation grew in popularity to such an extent that we needed an experienced outside online vendor to help us manage demand. We want more people to spread the word about PLoS and merchandise is a great conversation opener. We are still going to give away merchandise to our editorial boards, at conferences and as a benefit for individual PLoS membership. The Store revenue will help us to offset the costs associated with this activity. What's the link between the PLoS store and other stores that come up on Zazzle when I search under PLoS? There is only one "official" PLoS store and it contains images and logos that have been approved by the organization. However, if you search on Zazzle for PLoS you will find products bearing our name that have been created by other individuals because Zazzle allows anyone to start their own store and feature their own designs. You are welcome to shop where you wish but only the "official" PLoS store contains our approved merchandise. I ordered a t-shirt and I am not happy with it. Please take advantage of The Zazzle Promise : If you don’t love they’ll take it back. If you are not 100% satisfied, you can return it for a replacement or refund within 30 days of receipt. Please do not return it to PLoS, although we welcome your feedback to store@plos.org . We have ordered a sample of every single logo or design that we offer and then worn and washed them. They held up well for us. What is that image in the header of the PLoS store? The image used in the PLoS Store header is a map of the Internet created by Matt Britt from data from the Opte Project . It also appears on the March 2008 cover of PLoS Medicine . The closeup shows how nodes representing Internet addresses are connected. Image credits T.Rex Line A derivative of Karl T. Bates et al.
