This baby's supposed "protected home" was invaded
Sadly, reports from Orangutan foundation International are that illegal mining and logging were going on within Tanjung Puting National Park - exactly where I photographed this baby orangutan and mother. When the people doing this were confronted, they retalited a couple of weeks ago by BURNIN DOWn the guard post for one area of the national park. The park rangers were threatened by men wielding machetes.
This report makes me very sad. The loss of the guard station and the cost to replace it are huge for O.F.I., but it just goes to prove that these guard posts ARE needed.
