Lizards are present in many cultures as animals able to access secret things and powers, and are often considered a guide to medicine men on their journeys. Perhaps that's why the lizard is often associated with the idea of good luck. Their ability of growing a new tail by regenerating it enforces the associated meaning of self-protection. A curiosity: the word "saurus" actually means lizard, and "dinosaur" means "terrible lizard".
