Here we have the predecessor to the "bicycle," known as the "Hobby Horse." Hobby Horses were expensive, impractical and coveted by all. They were actually toys for adults. In this reproduction of a 1819 lithograph called "Pedestrians Travelling on the New Invented Hobby Horse," we can get an overall picture of this bicycle-like device, being "ridden," walked, and carried by fashionably dressed men in England in the year 1819. ~ This antique image has been retouched and the colours have been enhanced.
