The big "T" began action in the Philippines in November 1944. Big "T" took two Kamikaze hits on January 21, 1945. Many were killed and wounded including Capt. Dixie Kiefer. Repaired at Puget Sound, bog "T" rejoined the fleet on May 1945, Later re-commissioned in 1952, serving in Vietnam War. The Big T earned five Battle stars during WWII and twelve during the Vietnam War. Ticonderoga represents the best of the Essex class late WWII carriers that gave the US Navy its superior mobility and striking power.
