【まるにうちわ】団扇には三種類の形がある。一つは軍配団扇で、その形は長楕円で、柄はその長楕円を二分して、下辺から上辺に達したものと、そうでないものとがある。その二は、われわれが夏期に使うところのもので、普通の物は竹柄の上部を割いて、これを放射状にひろげ、それを骨子として紙もしくは布を張ったもの。その形は円形・卵形もしくは梯形である。三つ目は、羽団扇で、鳥の羽を柄の先頭につけたものである。（沼田頼輔著「日本紋章学」）
