丸に隅たて井筒
.【まるにすみたていづつ】井筒紋 / 井戸の地上部分を囲むように組まれた井の字型の木組みを井桁、また、円形のものを井筒といった。しかし、紋章ではいつしか正方形のものを井筒、菱形のものを井桁と呼ぶようになった。古代より渇きを癒して命を繋ぐ水の湧く場所は精霊の宿る場所であり、神を祀る場所でもあった。文様としては、そうした信仰的な意義に基づき用いられたのだろう。紋章としての初見は『見聞諸家紋』に見る井伊氏の紋は井の字紋であり、井伊家の場合はそれが井筒紋に転化したのだろう。同じように苗字の一部に「井」の字を使用している家が家紋として採用することが次第に多くなっていった。（高澤等著「家紋の事典」）
