The cut snake image is derived from the first political cartoon in America. Benjamin Franklin was trying to inspire the British colonies to work together to resist attacks on the colonies prior to the Revolution. The original inscription was "Join, or Die." This played off of a popular myth of the time. If a snake that had been cut into pieces during the day, was put together before nightfall, it would survive. He was saying that the colonies would survive, if they stood together. And so it is now, in our time. We stand on the shoulders of giants. Our cause is that of Freedom, Justice and personal responsibility. Restore the US Constitution, and the states' too!
