Also known as the African Knifefish and is a member of the Gymnarchidae family. It is native to the Nile River Basin also the Senegal, Gambia, Volta, Niger and Chad River Basins in West Africa. It is nocturnal and has a poor vision, it navigates and hunts smaller fish using a weak electric field. It can swim equally well both backwards and forwards. It can reach a maximum length of 167cm (5 and a half feet) with a maximum published weight of 18.5kg (about 41 pounds).
