Ada was introduced to the work of Charles Babbage, a visionary mathematician and inventor, who was in the process of developing the world's first mechanical general-purpose computer, the Analytical Engine. Ada was immediately captivated by the possibilities of this new machine, and she saw its potential to revolutionise the world in ways that were yet to be imagined. She became an avid supporter of Babbage's work and began to delve deeply into the intricacies of the Analytical Engine, which was designed to perform mathematical calculations through the use of punched cards.
