【Akita-ogi】Ogi crest / During the Kenkyu era (1190-1199), Sadasue Ando was summoned and traveled to Kyoto. At that time, he was given a beautiful hinoki fan by Emperor Gotoba. Coincidentally, a Korean envoy presented a large eagle, and as a memento, the emperor gave Sadasue two of the eagle's feathers on top of the hinoki fan, saying 'For a warrior, what greater honor could there be?' This is recorded in 'Han Kan Pu' (a collection of feudal clan histories compiled by Arai Hakuseki in the early Edo period). This is said to be the origin of the Akita family crest 'Hinoki fan with eagle feathers' (from 'The Family Crests of Daimyo Families' by Kenichi Takahashi). In 'Research on Family Crests' by Manjiro Fukui, this is referred to as 'Akita family hinoki fan with eagle feathers'.
