【Akita Ougi】The Akita family crest is said to have originated when the emperor granted Ando Sadasue a beautiful Japanese cypress fan during the Kenkyu era (1190-1199). At the time, a great eagle was presented to the emperor by Goryeo (Korea), and to commemorate the occasion, the emperor placed two of its feathers on the fan and presented it to Sadasue, saying, 'For a warrior, what greater honor is there than this?' (as recorded in 'Hankanfu,' a collection of clan histories compiled by Arai Hakuseki in the early Edo period). This is said to be the origin of the Akita family crest, which features an eagle's feathers on a cypress fan.
