Aleutian Fox on the Road, Unalaska Island Postcard
Foxes were brought to the Aleutian Islands by the Russians during their occupation of Alaska. The foxes were primarily introduced to a small group of islands of which Unalaska Island is a member - the Fox Islands. The Fox Islands were, of course, named for the introduced foxes. Aleutian foxes come in many colours: blonde, red, salt and pepper, and rarely, black. The salt and pepper coloured foxes often have mixed colouring and they are smaller than the blonde and red foxes. This fox was standing on the road near O. S. I. on Unalaska Island.
