Pharaoh Ramesses II, also known as Ramesses the Great, was one of ancient Egypt's most illustrious and influential rulers. Born around 1303 BC, he ascended to the throne in his early twenties and reigned for a remarkable 66 years, making him one of the longest-reigning pharaohs in Egyptian history. Ramesses II's reign marked a period of significant prosperity and military conquests for Egypt. He is perhaps best known for his role in the Battle of Kadesh, a pivotal clash with the Hittite Empire. Though the battle ended inconclusively, Ramesses II skilfully promoted it as a great victory through monumental inscriptions and his famous poem, the "Poem of Pentaur."
