The calf hieroglyph refers to any newborn animal, and is even included in the word for heir. It symbolises abundance, welcoming change, and ties to family. Hartebeests in particular are known for their calm demeanour. The hieroglyphs in this piece say "inundation", representing a welcome change that brings reward, and the newborn calf rests in front of growing emmer wheat beside a pool of clean water. The sky features the Aries constellation.
