Arco Británico in Valparaiso Chile Postcard

This postcard features the Arco Británico in Valparaiso Chile. In 1910, it was donated to the city of Valparaiso in Chile by the British community to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the independence of Chile. The arch was designed by a Chilean architect named Alfredo Azancot and unveiled in 1911. The monument, covered in marble, was brought from Italy. It is decorated with the images of four Britons who fought in the Chilean War of Independence and a British Victorian lion sits on top. It also has the British and Chilean coats of arms.
