" Austria: 1882 - Südbahnhotel Semmering Poster

The Südbahnhotel is a former Grand Hotel on the Semmering Pass in Austria since 1882 and is within walking distance of the railway passing the pass. Wikipedia After completing its work on the railway in the 1870s, the South Railway Company turned to the construction of buildings along the areas that the railway had developed. The town of Semmering was easily accessible from Vienna thanks to the pioneering performance of the Semmering Railway, a section of the southern railway line, and should now be expanded to the holiday and air spa resort. In this context, the first of a series of railway hotels in the South Railway was built at exactly 1000 meters above sea level. The style of the hotels of the Südbahngesellschaft followed a uniform pattern at the beginning, and they were designed by railway engineers. This makes these buildings, the main feature of which is the exposed brick facade, look very sober on the outside and show little decorative work. This sober appearance of the hotels changed only when independent, state-authorized architects were commissioned. The buildings were thus characterized by a new style of late-history, which was also used in a large extension for the Südbahnhotel am Semmering (1901-1903).
