In addition to a history of high school and college, Ohio became the birthplace of the NFL when in 1920 the American Professional Football Association was founded. The league was formed in Canton, Ohio and five of the first teams were from the state. The Association's first president was Jim Thorpe who played for and coached the Canton Bulldogs during the 1910s.
