Bagan, Myanmar, is one of the world’s greatest archaeological wonders, often compared to Angkor Wat and Machu Picchu. This ancient city, located in the Mandalay Region of Myanmar, was the capital of the Pagan Kingdom from the 9th to the 13th century. During its peak, over 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas, and monasteries were built across the vast plains of Bagan. Today, around 2,200 temples remain, scattered across a surreal landscape that stretches along the banks of the Irrawaddy River. Among the most famous temples are Ananda Temple, known for its golden spires and stunning Buddha statues, Shwezigon Pagoda, a gilded stupa believed to enshrine a relic of the Buddha, and Dhammayangyi Temple, the largest and best-preserved structure.
