Bald Eagle on the Dock, Unalaska Island Postcard

There are over 600 bald eagles on Unalaska Island. When they are first year juveniles, the bald eagles have a spotted plummage of varying colours of brown and white. As the young eagles age, their feathers darken to a solid brown. In the fourth year their white heads and tail feathers begin to appear, turning completely white in their fifth year, when they are completely mature adults. Alaska is one of the last places in the United States where bald eagles are plentiful.
