The beignet is a deep-fried dough fritter which originated in France; the American version is most popular in New Orleans, Louisiana. It consists of fried dough, often eaten for breakfast, and is best served hot and dusted with a generous helping of powdered sugar. Ideal for a breakfast, brunch, or Mardi Gras celebration.
