Black Fox on Unalaska Island Postcard

During the Russian occupation of Alaska, foxes were introduced to Unalaska Island. Most of the foxes are red, blonde, or a dark brown in colour. This is a photo of a rare black fox. The foxes come into town during the winter to scavenge for food and they serve as pest control agents by preying on the rat population. This photo was taken in spring, just before the foxes leave town to go back up into the hills for their breeding season.
