Although recent work has indicated this may not be his work, it remains one of the most famous paintings attributed to Bruegel. Bruegel (1525-1569) was a Dutch Renaissance painter whose works include Landscape with the Fall of Icarus (circa 1558), The Tower of Babel (1563), as well as his famous peasant scenes. Also known as "Peasant Bruegel," he was father to Pieter Brueghel the Younger and Jan Brueghel the Elder, and uncle to Jan Brueghel the Younger.
