Buddha by Symbolist Painter Odilon Redon Magnet

"Buddha in His Youth" was painted by Odilon Redon in 1904. Redon created five artworks of the Buddha between 1904 and 1908. In this painting, the Lord Buddha is depicted sitting under a tree. (Note: The Buddha achieved his enlightenment while he sat under a Bodhi tree.) Odilon Redon was a French Symbolist artist known for his paintings and drawings of mythology and flowers. Although he was a contemporary of Monet and Renoir, Impressionism was not for him. Redon preferred an art of subjectivity and imagination. He was regarded by many of the Surrealists as their precursor.
