Artist: Unknown Title: Buddha Vairocana Date: 14th century Medium: Pigment on cloth Vairocana is a cosmic buddha from Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism. Buddha Vairocana, the “Resplendent One,” features several of his defining characteristics, including his white colour, performing the teaching gesture (dharmacakramudra), and sitting on an elaborate lion throne. The two bodhisattvas flanking him, one green and carrying a sword, the other red and holding a lotus, and with teachers in the upper corners.
